BTG Announces Battlefield Awareness Contracts.

FAIRFAX, Va,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1998--BTG, Inc. (BTGI: Nasdaq) announced that it has been awarded two Defense Department contracts for programs designed to enhance the battlefield awareness of military commanders. The programs are Battlefield Awareness and Data Dissemination for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) and a fusion architecture project for the Air Force. Terms of the two contracts were not available.

Battlefield Awareness is a methodology that provides a commander with a comprehensive view of the battlespace, including the disposition of enemy and friendly forces and the deployment of weapons and platforms. The information is presented in a visual format that allows the commander to assess options and make decisions more rapidly.

For DARPA's Battlefield Awareness enhancement, IVIEW (Integrated Virtual Environment for the Warfighter), BTG is developing information services and presentation applications that will help the Joint Warfighting Commander visualize the battlespace. Using the latest concepts in push technology and visual presentation techniques, IVIEW will give the Commander the most informative view of the battlespace. The initial phase of this effort will result in a demonstration of capability this year.

For the Air Force's Rome Laboratories in New York, BTG has started work on a two-year effort to develop and demonstrate a fusion architecture that will provide a consistent operational picture of the battlefield for command-level and network participants. COPVDF (Consistent Operational Picture Via Distributed Fusion) will be compliant with Department of Defense-approved architectures, allowing collaboration and information sharing among Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps forces. The effort will result in a working prototype at BTG and at government facilities which will permit assessment of distributed capabilities and algorithms.
