BTG's SASS Contract Extended for Third Year.

VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 4, 1996--BTG Inc. (NASDAQ: BTGI) announced that it has been awarded the third year of a $195 million, five-year contract to provide software to the defense intelligence community under the Systems Acquisition Support Services (SASS) software acquisition contract.

The SASS contract was one of the first large-scale government procurements to offer customers a wide selection of cost-effective commercial off-the-shelf software, ranging from e-mail and spreadsheets to Internet browsers and photo analysis.

The software offered has been identified for standard use throughout the intelligence community, ensuring that different agencies can share and understand information. SASS also makes extensive use of the electronic distribution of software licenses, saving the agencies both time and money.

Senior Vice President C. Thomas Nixon, general manager of BTG Technology Systems, said the company has an extensive record of successful performance with the intelligence community.

Nixon pointed to BTG's recent announcement of $66.5 million in new systems engineering work for the defense intelligence community as an example of the company's depth of experience in that sector. He said SASS, awarded in August 1994, was the first of a series of large-scale contracts awarded to BTG in the last two years.

Other mega awards include the $1.3 billion Information Technology Omnibus Procurement (ITOP) contract for the Department of Transportation; the $929 million Air Force IC4I program (Integration for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence); the Navy's $176 million New Technologies for Office and Portable Systems (NTOPS); and the $100 million National Institutes of Health ImageWorld contract.
