BT urged to reverse changes.


BRITISH TELECOM The telephone and communications carrier that provides services in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It used to be a division of the British Post Office, but was privatized in 1984 under Margaret Thatcher's administration.  is under pressure to reverse a decision to close 281 telephone kiosks in rural Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. .

BT argues that little-used pay phones are no longer needed as most people have mobile phones.

There are 4,324 telephone kiosks in Wales and BT is planning to axe pay phones where another one is located within 400 metres. Two-thirds are in Powys.
