BT to Incorporate RealNames Internet Keywords Into Product Line; UK Telco Deploys Internet Keywords to Ease Web Navigation for Its Customers.

RealNames RealNames was a company founded in 1997 by Keith Teare. Its goal was to create a multilingual keyword-based naming system for the Internet that would translate keywords typed into the address bar of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser to Uniform Resource Identifiers, based on  Corporation, creators of the Internet Internet

"Our goal is to keep BT's Internet customers at the forefront of Internet services," said John Swingewood, BT's director of Internet and Multimedia. "Internet Keywords will cut down on the time it takes BT's users to find information on the Web whether they're using the Web for business or pleasure."

To support BT's adoption of Internet Keywords, and help them serve their growing base of new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2.  users in the UK, RealNames is in the process of building a UK-specific Internet Keyword database that features leading UK companies, brands and products.

"We believe that incorporating Internet Keywords into the BT product line will simplify Web navigation for BT's users who will be able to more easily find companies, products and information on the Web."

BT was among the first in the UK to provide a free e-mail See Internet e-mail service.  address service through BT Talk21, which it launched on February 9, 1999 and the first to deliver voice-over-Internet service, which launched on April 16, 1999.
