BT Wholesale Deploys Convergys' Geneva Rating and Billing Software to Support Wholesale Customers.

Convergys Corporation (NYSE:CVG), the global leader in integrated billing, employee care and customer care services, today announced that its Geneva(TM) rating and billing software is now in operation at BT Wholesale, a major provider of network services in the U.K. BT Wholesale is using Geneva to support interconnect, local loop unbundling (LLU), retail private circuits, and broadband services. A team that included Convergys, BT Wholesale, and PwC Consulting completed the Geneva implementation and integration.

A pioneer of broadband ADSL in the UK, BT Wholesale needed a solution that would help retain its market share in the broadband space, for example, by providing maximum flexibility in the types of pricing models that were supported. Other key factors leading to the choice of Geneva, according to Simon Herrington, BT Wholesale's Billing Controller, were the software's low cost of ownership and rich functionality. "We needed a solution that would support features such as advanced discounting and data partitioning and that would allow us to bring new products to market quickly in the future. We were also looking for carrier-grade functionality in areas such as security and scalability. Convergys' solution was the best fit in every respect."

Opening up BT Wholesale exchanges to other providers, known as LLU, also raised a number of billing issues. BT Wholesale uses Geneva, for example, to bill operators for use of facilities such as power and floor space as well as for the charges associated with adoption of BT Wholesale's copper pairs. Geneva also enables BT Wholesale to price each service appropriately and offer a billing service that is tailored to the particular needs of individual customers.
