Agreement Allows Both Networks to Extend their Global Reach

The agreement significantly expands the service reach of both companies for the benefit of their global customers and widens marketing and sales exposure of their video networks.

BT North America Broadcast Services will benefit from this agreement by gaining access to AldeaVision's Global Video Network with presence in Miami, Caracas, Mexico City Mexico City

Under the terms of this agreement, both companies will jointly offer each other's video services.

Bill McNamara, General Manager of BT North America explained, "Our network and services are very complementary, with AldeaVision's network which runs North to South and our network running on a primarily East to West axis, it seemed natural that jointly we could provide an elegant solution to broadcasters. "We are pleased that this relationship with AldeaVision will facilitate the extension of our customer reach to Canada and to Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. , which has been traditionally a difficult market to access." Mr. McNamara added.

The companies' combined networks allow media companies in North America, Latin America and Europe to be linked by an all fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber  based network. For customers, the interconnection will be completely transparent and broadcasters will only see a wider list of possible destinations to choose from. The two companies expect to be in full joint service by mid September of 2002.
