BT, CSC & SchlumbergerSema Confirm Best in Class Alliance to Help Deliver the Inland Revenue's Modernisation Agenda.

Business Editors/High Tech Writers

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2003

BT, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC (Card Security Code) A three- or four-digit number printed on the back of credit cards for security purposes. Called "Card Verification Value" (CVV) by Visa, "Card Validation Code" (CVC) by MasterCard and "Card Identification (CID) by American Express and Discover, ) and SchlumbergerSema today confirmed that they have formed the 'Fusion' Alliance to compete for the Inland Revenue's ASPIRE contract.

The three organisations believe their combined strength brings together the necessary experience, size, and track record in consulting, systems integration and outsourcing (1) Contracting with outside consultants, software houses or service bureaus to perform systems analysis, programming and datacenter operations. Contrast with insourcing. See netsourcing, ASP, SSP and facilities management.  to provide the Inland Revenue Inland Revenue

with a compelling alternative to its current arrangements. This alliance is the only UK-led bid for ASPIRE.

The Fusion Alliance is also putting forward a unique commercial framework. 'Contracting for value' is designed to deliver best value to the Inland Revenue throughout the lifetime of the contract, to streamline communications and fully exploit the strengths of each Fusion Alliance member.

Bill Halbert, chief executive officer of Syntegra, BT's lead organisation, said: "We have built a highly flexible union of skills, capability and thought leadership. More of the same is not an option for the Inland Revenue and our alliance is a direct response to that. We have been working closely with our Fusion colleagues for some months, putting together a robust proposition which is visionary, innovative and different".

Mike Laphen, president of CSC's European operations, said: "The Fusion Alliance, with its combination of world class experience in managing large scale operational environments and e-enabled change, understands the challenges the Inland Revenue is facing and the role technology can play in meeting them."

Xavier Flinois, president, SchlumbergerSema, added: "Technology is, however, only a part of our proposition. In order to realise the Inland Revenue's vision, the real challenge is to create a radically new business architecture. Our alliance is uniquely placed to help the department make this a reality."

"The ASPIRE project represents a large and exciting business opportunity to all of the members of the Fusion Alliance," concluded Bill Halbert. "The department has taken significant steps to encourage competition for this contract and we firmly believe that we can win it."
