"Membership in the BSQUARE(R) SDIO Now! program helps us ensure that we can target the world's smallest SD card type PHS (Personal Handyphone System) A TDMA-based cellular phone system introduced in Japan in mid-1995. Operating in the 1880-1930 MHz band, PHS uses microcells that cover an area only 100 to 500 meters in diameter, resulting in lower equipment costs but requiring more base  terminal for a wide range of SDIO-equipped Pocket PCs," said Toru Ariga, General Manager for Seiko Instruments. "Our company saved significant development time and cost by leveraging BSQUARE's SDIO Now! architecture, the proven SDIO software solutions for devices running on Windows Powered Pocket PC software."

SDIO Now!-enabled Pocket PC powered devices featured in the Showcase include: Samsung's i700 Pocket PC Phone Edition A Pocket PC with telephone capability. "SDIO Now! satisfies OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  demand for SD/SDIO functionality that can be quickly and easily added to Windows Powered mobile devices, such as Pocket PCs and Smartphones, to meet narrow time-to-market windows."

"BSQUARE's SDIO Now! program has quickened the pace of adoption of Secure Digital technology because it helps ensure interoperability across various products from different vendors," said Howard Gefen, director for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "The new Windows Powered Pocket PC products from Samsung and HP are great examples of how SDIO Now! technology can be utilized to expand functionality and offer our mutual customers new mobile-friendly peripheral and accessory options."

BSQUARE designed the SDIO Now! program to help manufacturers of chipsets, portable devices, card host controllers, and peripherals support the popular SD and SDIO standards on Windows Powered devices. The program provides companies with a common development platform, eliminating the need for vendors to write individual drivers for each device. With a standard driver architecture and APIs, vendors can feel confident that their products will be compatible with various devices regardless of the choice of SD host controller or platform architecture.
