 9000 certification for its commercial airplane modification program in Wichita, Kan.

9000 designation," said Modification Center Director Vic McMullen. "It is the equivalent of the Malcolm Baldridge Award for quality, except that it is an international standard, and it gives us a baseline to support any airline worldwide regardless of the regulatory authority.

The Wichita Modification Center, operating under the direction of Boeing Airplane Services, specializes in wide-bodied aircraft modifications, maintenance and structural enhancements.  shuttle carrier aircraft The Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) are two extensively modified Boeing 747 jetliners that NASA uses to transport a space shuttle orbiter. One is a 747-100 model, while the other is a short range 747-100SR. .

The Wichita Modification Center became part of Boeing Airplane Services last June, when the new business was established. In addition to providing 747 freighter conversions, the unit is known for its DC-10/MD-11 passenger-to-freighter work and other modifications that enhance commercial airplane performance and productivity.
