BSDI To Deliver BSD/OS for Motorola PowerPC Microprocessors.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1996--Berkeley Software Design, Inc. (BSDI BSDI - Berkeley Software Design, Inc. ) announced today its intent to develop and introduce its BSD/OS as an embedded systems Embedded systems

 software platform for PowerPC(tm) microprocessors.

BSDI will introduce the BSD/OS systems software platform for PowerPC microprocessors to network appliance developers and other embedded systems designers wishing to take advantage of this powerful, quick-to-market, and economical development and deployment platform. BSDI's BSD/OS for PowerPC microprocessors will be available beginning in 1H97 and is based on the existing OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  implementation of BSD/OS for the PowerPC microprocessor platform.

"BSDI's BSD/OS is an industrial-strength platform for a rapidly emerging class of intelligent network appliances," said Phil Pompa, Director of Marketing, RISC RISC

Microprocessor Division, Motorola. "BSDI offers large system capabilities and performance in a small footprint.

"Motorola customers are extremely interested in the opportunity to incorporate BSD/OS in a new generation of PowerPC microprocessor-based devices, such as network PCs and a variety of firewalls and routers, hubs and switches, network printers, and telephony and multimedia servers.

"We're bringing BSDI's BSD/OS to the PowerPC architecture to enable embedded systems designers to develop and deploy a wide range of BSDI-powered solutions in industries from automotive to Internet," said Randall Brem, BSDI's Vice President of Embedded Technology Sales. "BSDI will augment our existing BSD/OS implementation for the PowerPC to track Motorola's PowerPC technology directions, and welcome Motorola's cooperation in introducing BSD/OS to the PowerPC marketplace."
