BSDI Internet Server Powers KIDLINK's Innovative Web Site; www.kidlink.org Connects Children In Global Dialog.

COLORADO SPRINGS Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. It is a year-round resort and a booming military, technological, and commercial city. , Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1996--Berkeley Software Design, Inc. (BSDI BSDI - Berkeley Software Design, Inc. (tm)) today announced that its BSDI Internet Server powers KIDLINK's innovative Web site (http://www.kidlink.org), enabling children aged 10 to 15 in over 80 countries to participate in a global dialog using the Internet and World Wide Web.

KIDLINK is a grassroots project that empowers children to communicate and explore ideas, mainly through the use of the Internet and Listserv electronic mailing lists. Children can start their participation in KIDLINK's ongoing Internet forums by connecting to www.kidlink.org with any Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  and answering four questions: Who am I? What do I want to be when I grow up? How do I want the world to be better when I grow up? What can I do about that now?

KIDLINK participants can join in a variety of activities, such as a group of KIDCAFE mailing lists, classroom dialogs and KIDART online art exhibit. Over 50,000 youth from 81 countries have participated in KIDLINK's programs since the start in 1990.

"The solid BSDI Internet Server software and its built-in Web server runs the KIDLINK site smoothly and efficiently," said Dan Wheeler Daniel Michael Wheeler (born December 10, 1977 in Providence, Rhode Island) is a Major League Baseball pitcher currently playing for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. , but the PC-based BSDI system does not require much care and feeding to deliver trouble-free operation."

"We donated BSDI software for KIDLINK's innovative Web site to empower youth worldwide to use the Internet as a resource for dialog, education, cultural exchange, and creativity," said Rob Kolstad, Ph.D., President of BSDI. "As KIDLINK shows, BSDI-powered PC Internet servers are ideal for any organization that can't afford a full-time Webmaster or an expensive workstation yet still wants to provide responsive and reliable access to their Web site."

"BSDI's donation enables us to take full advantage of advanced World Wide Web technology for KIDLINK projects," said Odd de Presno, founder of KIDLINK. "For example, by exhibiting the hundreds of items in our Gallery of Computer Art, we hope to make the Internet a more inviting place for the world's children and to increase KIDLINK's use as a forum for student communications."
