BSA to Hold Press Conference to Release Study on Economic Impact of Piracy.

) will release the findings of a worldwide study on the global economic impact of software piracy The illegal copying of software for distribution within the organization, or to friends, clubs and other groups, or for duplication and resale. The software industry loses billions of dollars each year to piracy, and although it may seem innocent enough to install an application on a . Mr. Holleyman will be joined by Chris Israel, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy at the U.S. Department of Commerce and by John Gantz, the Chief Research Officer at the International Data Corporation (IDC), to discuss how reducing piracy can provide significant economic benefits.

The BSA-commissioned study is the only examination of its kind, assessing the IT sector's economic impact in 70 countries worldwide and the benefits that accrue to countries that tighten and enforce their intellectual property laws and work to educate the public about the impact of piracy.
