BRYANT PLAYS IT COOL DESPITE TECHNICAL, HE REMAINS CALM, SCORES 43 IN WIN LAKERS 106, SEATTLE 93.

Byline: Ross Siler Staff Writer

SEATTLE - This time, Kobe Bryant Kobe Bean Bryant (born July 23 1978(1978--)) is an American All-Star shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.  wasn't going to let the referee's whistle turn him into a ball-kicking, chair-punching picture of frustration against Ray Allen Not to be confused with Ray Alan or Allan Ray.
Walter Ray Allen (born July 20, 1975) is an American professional basketball player for the NBA's Boston Celtics, for whom he plays shooting guard. He has also played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Seattle SuperSonics.

All Bryant wanted Friday night was an offensive foul call on Allen, the Sonics' All-Star guard. Instead, Bryant was called for his 14th technical of the season in the second quarter and his third personal with 9:26 left in the third.

. He took over the game in the third quarter, scoring 14 of his 43 points, as the Lakers overcame the Sonics 106-93 at Key Arena.

``I just continued to attack,'' said Bryant, who went 17 of 38 from the field and played 46 minutes. ``Fouls or no fouls, I just wanted to be aggressive.''

It was Bryant's 22nd 40-point game of the season, one shy of Elgin Baylor's franchise record from 1962-63, and came as the Lakers bounced back from Thursday's loss to San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837.  with a much-needed win.

The Lakers (39-35) have won five of their last six games and stayed 1 1/2 games in front of Sacramento for seventh in the Western Conference standings.

``When we have losses,'' Bryant said, ``we don't want them coming in bunches.''

, Bryant boiled over in frustration as he finished with just 22 points on 8-of-29 shooting as the Lakers suffered a discouraging 120-113 loss to the Sonics at Staples Center.

The Bryant-Allen matchup, as always, was the featured attraction, and Bryant got the better of Friday's game. He scored 24 points to Allen's 13 in the second half, with the Sonics' star guard hitting just 5 of 16 shots after halftime.

Not only was Bryant run through so many screens trying to stay with Allen, who led the Sonics with 29 points, he also complained that Allen brushed aside his arms to create space on just about every possession.

To his displeasure, Bryant was called for his third foul early in the second half. It seemed to trigger something, though, as he ran out for a reverse dunk after Allen missed a 3-pointer and drilled a tough turnaround over him.

``I thought things were going to be tough for him tonight,'' Lakers coach Phil Jackson

The Lakers took their first lead in the third quarter and closed the quarter on a 16-7 run. They won the quarter 29-17 Friday, one night after the Spurs ran away with the game in the same situation.

No play was bigger than rookie Ronny Turiaf's block of Rashard Lewis Rashard Quovon Lewis (born August 8, 1979 in Pineville, Louisiana) is an American professional basketball player. After playing his first nine seasons for the Seattle SuperSonics, Lewis joined the Orlando Magic having agreed to a 6-year sign-and-trade deal (believed to be worth at  at the end of the quarter. With Kwame Brown in foul trouble, Turiaf stepped up in the lane to block Lewis' drive and fed the ball ahead to Bryant for a reverse layup.

``I think it kind of broke their back a little bit,'' Turiaf said. ``They were hoping to play the mismatch. So I was just going to block it like Bill Russell Noun 1. Bill Russell - United States basketball center (born in 1934)

Turiaf finished with six points and seven rebounds and played 16 minutes in what amounted to a homecoming for the former Gonzaga star. The Lakers took an 83-71 lead into the fourth quarter after his block.

Bryant, meanwhile, was whistled for his 14th technical with 5:26 left in the second quarter. But Bryant was hoping the league would rescind the technical foul, as it has done before this season for Rasheed Wallace. He was left mouthing the words, ``For what?'' at Willard after the call.

``They have to (rescind the technical),'' Bryant said. ``That was ridiculous.''
