A CONVICT pulled out his own bad tooth because he'd waited so long to see a dentist.

But he was not alone in his "desperate self-treatment measure", says a report.

It found suffering category C inmates at HMP Kirklevington Grange in Yarm, Cleveland, experienced delays of seven weeks or more while officials approved passes for them to see dentists outside.

The Prison Inspectors' report said: "Some individuals had pain, two had facial swelling, one had pulled his own tooth out for relief and another admitted illegal self-medication."

The "resettlement" jail was also criticised for one in 10 of 273 inmates failing drug tests.
