BRUSH FIRES FLARE UP IN CASTAIC, VAL VERDE.

A firefighter suffered heat exhaustion heat exhaustion, condition caused by overexposure to sunlight or another heat source and resulting in dehydration and salt depletion, also known as heat prostration. The symptoms are severe headaches, weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, and sometimes unconsciousness.  Saturday afternoon fighting a 15-acre brush blaze possibly started by people playing with fireworks near The Old Road north of Hasley Canyon Road, officials said.

The 12:21 p.m. fire traveled quickly up hillsides and came close to homes but caused no damage and was completely contained by 2 p.m., officials said.

The injured firefighter, who was not identified, was treated at the scene.

Officials said that an adult and two minors playing with firecrackers may have started the fire.

 officials said that The Old Road was closed temporarily at Backer Road, Sedona Way, Hasley Canyon Road and Hillcrest Place.

Earlier in the day, more than five acres of brush were destroyed in Val Verde.

The fire that started around midnight and burned between five and six acres near Val Verde Park at Del Valle and Hasley Canyon roads.

Firefighters had the blaze fully contained by 1 a.m.

The cause was under investigation.
