Firefighters battled an afternoon brush fire Thursday that scorched scorch

Wells said that while it appeared that the fire was spreading to those communities, it was only smoke traveling into the areas.

The fire was contained by 4:40 p.m., a fire official said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
