Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer

TUCSON, Ariz. -UCLA came to the McKale Center McKale Memorial Center is an athletic arena located on the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. It is primarily used for basketball, but also features state-of-the-art physical training and therapy facilities.  banged up, bruised and battered. The Bruins hadn't won here in eight years.

They left bruised and battered, too. They also left with a win.

rode Arron Afflalo Arron Agustin Afflalo (born October 15, 1985) is an American professional basketball player, currently with the Detroit Pistons. He recently completed a three-year career at University of California, Los Angeles in the Pacific Ten Conference of the NCAA as the starting shooting  once again and had solid performance from nearly everyone in an 85-79 win Thursday at McKale Center.

UCLA's rash of injuries didn't change and even with point guard Jordan Farmar Jordan Robert Farmar (born November 30, 1986) is an American professional basketball player at starting point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

He was previously the starting point guard for the UCLA men's basketball team.
hobbling around, the 17th-ranked Bruins (12-2) still won.

Farmar made two free throws with 20 seconds left and another pair with 10 seconds left to give UCLA an 83-79 lead, which sealed the victory. The Bruins controlled the second half but never led by more than eight.

It got interesting in the final minute as Arizona pulled within two points on an Afflalo mistake. He turned the ball over against the press in the backcourt. Chris Rodgers Chris Rodgers (born 5 March, 1976) is an English golfer who turned professional in 1996. He currently plays mainly on the Asian Tour and in 2005 he moved to Bangkok. His first Asian Tour win came at the 2006 Pakistan Open.  had the steal, made the basket and was fouled. He converted the three-point play with 35.2 seconds left to pull the Wildcats (9-4, 2-1 Pac-10) within two at 79-77.

Farmar then made two free throws and after a Marcus Williams Marcus Williams may refer to:

Afflalo had a team-high 20 points and Josh Shipp Josh Shipp (born 23 January in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is an American motivational speaker and author focusing on youth and college-aged audiences. He is noted as being one of the youngest speakers ever accepted into the National Speakers Association.  added 14. Arizona guard Hassan Adams Hassan Olawale Adams (born June 20, 1984, in Los Angeles, California) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. He played collegiately at the University of Arizona from 2002 to 2006.  was held to 21 points after averaging 28 in the first two Pac-10 games.

Arizona had won four consecutive games and six of the last seven.

UCLA hadn't won at the McKale Center since 1997 and Arizona hadn't lost at McKale Center since last Jan. 29 against Washington State. The Bruins nearly won here last year, too. They snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-1 in Pac-10 play.

Afflalo, the key to UCLA's success this year, was instrumental. He made a sick shot on the baseline on a fallaway jumper with 3:15 left to put UCLA ahead 75-68.

The Bruins sure shot like they belonged at the McKale Center. UCLA shot 68 percent in the first half and eight of nine players scored.

Lorenzo Mata, who started in the carousel that is UCLA's center position, played well down the stretch. He drew consecutive fouls within a nine-second span and made three of four free throws to give UCLA a 71-63 lead with 5:25 left.

Arizona just got back in the rankings this week with a double-overtime win at Washington. With a sweep of the Washington schools to start the Pac-10, the Wildcats were off to a great start.

But UCLA was hot from the field and ran out to an 8-0 lead. Despite point guard Jordan Farmar hobbling around on his injured right ankle, and Arron Afflalo picking up three fouls in the Farmar missed both of UCLA's practices this week but still started. In the last game against Cal, he was held to 2 for 11 shooting and just six points.

Center Michael Fey (ankle), forward Cedric Bozeman Cedric R. Bozeman (born March 7 1983 in Los Angeles, California) is an American professional basketball player, formerly of the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Bozeman averaged 1.1 points in 23 games with five starts with the Hawks before being waived in January 2007.  (shoulder) and Janou Rubin (flu) didn't make the trip, so UCLA brought its three walkons.

UCLA coach Ben Howland Ben Howland (born May 28, 1957 in Lebanon, Oregon) is an American college head coach of men's basketball.

He has been the head coach of the University of California, Los Angeles since 2003, and recently signed a contract extension through 2013.
was true to his word in playing freshman guard Michael Roll a bit more in an attempt to spell Afflalo and Farmar more. Afflalo earned a trip to the bench on his own accord in the first half with three fouls. That wasn't a good thing for the Bruins, since Afflalo was guarding all-everything guard Hassan Adams.

Adams, however, was held to eight points on 4-for-7 shooting in the first half and 21 for the game. Adams averaged 28 points per game against the Washington schools. As Adams goes, so do the Wildcats and they struggled from the outside.

But Adams wasn't making the customary shots he normally does. He tried a finger roll in the lane with about a minute left and missed but Darren Collison Darren Michael Collison (born August 23, 1987) is an American basketball player. The right-hander is a native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and is currently playing his sophomore season for the University of California, Los Angeles.  turned the ball over to Adams and he made a fastbreak layup to cut the lead to 79-74.
