Needing three straight wins against Stanford, UCLA's baseball team came up with a dramatic win in the series opener Friday night, getting a one-out home run from Eric Valent Eric Valent (born April 4, 1977 in La Mirada, California) is a Major League Baseball player. He has played parts of 5 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Phillies, Reds, and most recently the Mets. He bats and throws left handed.  in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 10-9 win at Jackie Robinson Noun 1. UCLA opened an 8-0 lead, then saw Stanford score six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to tie the game.

Jon Heinrichs hit his 23rd home run for UCLA.
