BRUINS CAN'T HOLD 'EM LATE TD PASS GIVES WYOMING VICTORY WYOMING 24, UCLA 21.

Byline: Brian Dohn Staff Writer

LAS VEGAS Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.  - It was a painful flashback flash·back

And yet this was far worse. A much more talented UCLA, with ideas of building something for the future and using a win as momentum, was instead reminded of the fragile state A fragile state is a state significantly susceptible to crisis in one or more of its sub-systems. Tight end John Wadkowski caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Corey Bramlet Corey Bramlet (born January 17, 1983 in Wheatland, Wyoming) is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europa. He played collegiately at Wyoming.  with 57 seconds remaining lifted Wyoming to a 24-21 win over UCLA at Sam Boyd Stadium Sam Boyd Stadium is a football stadium located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Making it worse was UCLA had a chance to put the game away late in the third quarter when Wyoming was punting from its own end zone, but Craig Bragg Bold text

muffed the punt and the Cowboys recovered.

The Cowboys drove to UCLA's 23-yard line, then scored when receiver Jovon Bouknight took a reverse and threw to backup quarterback J.J. Raternick, who caught the fluttering pass among a quartet of players as Wyoming cut UCLA's lead to 21-17 with 12:50 to play.

Wyoming had a chance to take the lead a few moments later when it recovered a Koral fumble on UCLA's 17-yard line minutes later, but on second down Matt Clark Matt Clark may refer to:

Wyoming took over on its own 28 and drove down the field, converting a fourth-and-inches by a few inches on Bramlet's sneak. A pass interference In American football and Canadian football, pass interference is when a player interferes with an eligible receiver's ability to make a fair attempt to catch a forward pass.  penalty on cornerback Matt Clark followed before Bramlet capped the 10-play, 72-yard drive with a seam pass to Wadkowski.

Bruins backup David Koral tried to lead the frantic last drive, which began on UCLA's own 16-yard line but didn't pass its own 40.

It is the first bowl win for Wyoming (7-5) since the 1966 Sun Bowl. UCLA (6-6) has dropped its last two bowl games, falling to Fresno State last season before this latest collapse in which the Bruins wasted a 21-10 third-quarter lead.

Bragg finished his stellar career with two touchdown catches, on passes of 17 and 25 yards from Koral, and he leaves as UCLA's all-time receptions leader with 193.

UCLA sophomore tailback Maurice Drew, who finished the night with 126 yards on 25 carries, finished the season with 1,007 yards. He is the 10th player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Koral was in because starter Drew Olson was injured in the second quarter when Cowboys defensive end John Flora had a hold of Olson's left leg and teammate Matt Chase delivered a big hit that caused Olson's knee to twist.

Olson, who completed 6 of 12 for 96 yards, watched the second half from the sidelines on crutches. He was diagnosed with a sprained left knee, but was not expected to need surgery to correct the problem.

Koral's first pass attempt of his UCLA career came on third-and-16 and was incomplete, but offensive coordinator Tom Cable's willingness to take a shot with Koral showed confidence.

After Wyoming punter Adam Brooks was pulled after a trio of brutal punts, Scott Parker got his turn and booted it 23 yards into a breeze to give the Bruins the ball on the Cowboys' 30-yard line. It marked the fifth possession UCLA had the ball in Wyoming territory, and for the second consecutive time the Bruins came away with points.

However, it was Koral, a little-used backup who transferred from Santa Monica College Santa Monica College was first opened in 1929 as Santa Monica Junior College. Current enrollment is 32,000 students in more than 90 fields of study. The college also has one of the largest international student populations of any community college in the US, with approximately  in January but only played in a mop-up role.

Koral, who is more fleet of foot but doesn't have the arm strength of Olson, engineered an efficient drive in which the Bruins utilized his mobility. Koral scrambled for seven yards on his first play, and after two runs from Drew it was Koral rolling right and finding Bragg in the end zone. The 17-yard scoring play gave the Bruins, who were outplayed in the first quarter, a 14-10 lead 1:50 before the half.

Koral began the second half just as hot. On UCLA's first possession, heled a 12-play, 80-yard drive on which he completed a crucial third-down swing pass to Chris Markey for 10 yards. He finished off the drive by stepping up in the pocket and hitting Bragg at the right side of the end zone, and Bragg did a dandy job of keeping his feet inbounds in·bounds

. The 25-yard pass play gave the Bruins a 21-10 lead with 7:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Even though Wyoming won the toss and kicked to take advantage of the strong winds, it suffered in the field-position battle. But it didn't matter, not even when the Cowboys started a drive on their own 5-yard line.

Despite being backed up, the Cowboys moved quickly and got to UCLA's 30-yard line in two plays, thanks largely to a 56-yard pass to Bouknight. The Cowboys settled for a 39-yard field goal from Deric Yaussi fora 3-0 lead.

And the Bruins, who had a series of mental and physical (two fumbles) mistakes in the first quarter, aided Wyoming's cause on its next play from scrimmage A play from scrimmage is the activity of the games of Canadian football and American football during which one team tries to advance the ball or to score, and the other team tries to stop them or take the ball away.  when Markey fumbled after receiving a swing pass.

Wyoming recovered on UCLA's 29-yard line, and eventually scored on a 10-yard pass to Tyler Holden to put the Cowboys ahead 10-0 with 4:11 remaining in the first quarter.
