BROWN LEADS MOORPARK COUNCIL RACE.

Former Councilwoman Eloise Brown led the crowded race to fill a seat on the Moorpark City Council in partial election returns late Tuesday.

Brown held a lead over six other candidates in the race to fill the vacant seat of former Councilman Scott Montgomery.

The winner of the special election will serve about eight months on the City Council before the seat appears on the ballot again in the November general election.

Montgomery resigned in October after pleading guilty to felony felony (fĕl`ənē), any grave crime, in contrast to a misdemeanor, that is so declared in statute or was so considered in common law.  conflict of interest charges. Prosecutors said Montgomery received a $3,500 loan from one of the city's trash haulers then voted to extend the contract without disclosing the financial relationship.
