 BROWN AND KAHL ELECTED NATIONAL FUEL DIRECTORS
 NEW YORK, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The shareholders of National Fuel


Gas Company (NYSE: NFG) have re-elected John M. Brown and elected Luiz F. Kahl to the board of directors. Both will serve three year terms.
 The company's annual meeting was held today in New York City.
 Bernard J. Kennedy, chairman of the board of directors, president and chief Executive Officer of National Fuel said, "We are fortunate to have the expertise of these gentlemen available to us. Mr. Brown's 43- year career in the gas industry is an asset that can't be overstated and Mr. Kahl will provide a unique perspective that will help us further understand the needs of our utility markets and his interest in the revitalization of our area will complement one of National Fuel's prime objectives."
 Kennedy also commended Albert F. Duval of Erie, Pa., and John N. Walsh of Buffalo, N.Y., for their outstanding service to National Fuel. Duval, who has been a director since 1975, and Walsh, a director since 1979, have retired.
 In other action, the shareholders rejected a stockholder resolution proposing adoption of cumulative voting rights.
 National Fuel Gas Company is a public utility holding company with its operating headquarters in Buffalo. The company operates an extensive natural gas utility system in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania, is engaged in natural gas and oil exploration and production in the Appalachian area, Gulf Coast regions and in California, and operates a natural gas pipeline network in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.
 John M. Brown, 67, began his gas industry career in 1949 with the former Pennsylvania Gas Company. He was elected president in 1972. In 1974 he became senior vice president of National Fuel Gas Company and executive vice president of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation. He was named president of the Distribution Company in 1978 and chief executive officer in 1979. Brown retired as president in 1989 and served as vice chairman of the board of directors of National Fuel Gas Company during that year. He has been a director since 1972.
 Kahl, 55, is president of The Carborundum Company, Niagara Falls, N.Y., a position held since 1984. In 1990 he was named chief operating officer of BP Advanced Materials and Carborundum. Advanced Materials, a manufacturer of composites, and Carborundum, a manufacturer of ceramic materials, are both operating units of British Petroleum.
