and became highly successful businessmen intend to donate $1 million to the college today to help build its NASA/JPL Science Education Center.

The gift by food franchise owners Larry and Ralph Cimmarusti is believed to be the largest cash donation ever made to any Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  area community college.

``It's great to give something back to the community where you live and work,'' said Larry Cimmarusti. ``I don't think I've seen a junior college that will be this advanced in science. It will be fascinating.''

Tentative plans for the science center include a geological laboratory linked to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory “JPL” redirects here. For other uses, see JPL (disambiguation).

``We'd like to see the city continue to prosper, and this is a good addition to the city,'' said Ralph Cimmarusti, 45, who studied business at the community college after graduating from Eagle Rock High School, just as his brother did. ``We want to expand the school, to make it a little more prestigious of a junior college.''

Both men now live in La Canada. Together they run CIMM'S Inc., a Glendale company that owns more than 100 Burger King franchises in five states and all of the Tony Roma's Tony Roma's is a casual dining chain restaurant specializing in baby back ribs. Rep. James Rogan, R-Pasadena, who himself is a former Glendale Community College instructor, secured a $2 million federal grant toward the science center. To expand the scope of the project, other fund-raising efforts were started as soon as the grant was received.

A formal ceremony to accept the Cimmarusti donation will be held today by a representative of Rogan's office and the college superintendent and president, John A. Davittho, who approached the brothers to seek their financial assistance.

Committee representatives of the school's various science departments have almost completed plans for what the center should provide.

Construction is set to begin in 2000 and will be done at the same time that the physics/biology and chemistry/math buildings are renovated.

The college already has a partnership with Occidental College to train math and science teachers in the largest collaborative program in the state.

The college also has the largest learning center in the state providing science and math volunteers to schools for kindergarten through 12th grade.
