BROTHERS EARN EAGLE SCOUT RANK.


Two teenage brothers from Moorpark got their Eagle Scout awards at a ceremony last month at the Simi Valley Elks Lodge.

Davey Freeman, 18, and Jeffrey Freeman, 16, have been Scouting since 1994 and 1995, respectively.

Davey has earned 32 merit badges and served his troop in a variety of leadership roles. For a community service project, Davey beautified the campus of Moorpark High School Moorpark High School, located in Moorpark, California, is a public high school in the Moorpark Unified School District and currently has an enrollment of 2,478 students.[1]  and carved the letters ``MHS'' in a hedge. He plans to enroll at the University of California, Santa Barbara History
The predecessor to UCSB, Santa Barbara State College, focused on teacher training, industrial arts, home economics, and foreign languages. Intense lobbying by an interest group in the City of Santa Barbara led by Thomas Storke and Pearl Chase persuaded the State
, and study law and society.

Jeffrey earned 26 merit badges and also provided leadership for his troop. For his project, he added a drinking fountain at the Moorpark High School track stadium. His interest is in aerospace engineering.

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club awarded $1,000 scholarships to 5,700 high school students nationwide, including 18 from the San Fernando and surrounding valleys. They are:

The El Camino Parent Teacher Student Association will host the Woodland Hills Experience, a fundraiser for the campus, from noon to 4 p.m. today in the quad at El Camino Real High School El Camino Real High School (also known locally as "ECR" and by some more recently as "ELCO") is a public secondary school located in the Woodland Hills district of the San Fernando Valley region of the city of Los Angeles, California. , 5440 Valley Circle Blvd. Food sellers, providers of personal services and individual vendors from throughout Woodland Hills will attend.

Admission is $1 for students and adults, free for children younger than 12.

Retired geology professor Gene Fritsche is leading a series of fundraising hikes for the Geological Sciences Department at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an . The 10 hikes began Thursday near the Newhall Pass and will end June 19 at Cajon Pass.

``Because the cost of education today is so high, many geology students need financial aid if they're going to complete their degrees in a timely fashion and become the geologists of the future,'' said Fritsche, 69, who retired in 2000.

Dr. Dennis J. Slamon, an oncologist who lives in Woodland Hills, was the recipient Saturday of the David A. Karnovsky Memorial Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology American Society of Clinical Oncology, or ASCO, is an organization that represents all clinical oncologists. Every year, ASCO holds a large symposium where physicians and researchers meet to convey and discuss research and ideas. . The award recognizes those who have changed the way doctors think about the general practice of oncology through clinical research. Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with tumors.

Slamon is a professor of medicine, chief of the division of hematology/oncology and executive vice chairman for research at the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

 Department of Medicine. He's written or co-written more than 150 scientific publications, and President Bill Clinton appointed him to the President's Cancer Panel The President's Cancer Panel is a three-person panel that reports to the President of the United States on the development and execution of the National Cancer Program. Members serve 3-year terms, and at least two of the three panel members must be distinguished scientists or  in 2000.

The Karnovsky award is named for a pioneer in the field of oncology.
