Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Urdu: نصرت فتح على خاں) (October 13, 1948 - August 16, 1997), a Pakistani musician, was

At 8 tonight at UCLA's Royce Hall, brothers Meher and Sheher Ali, who were taught by Khan's father and have been performing 34 years, will show their own distinctive take on qawwali, the ecstatic, trance-inducing music of Islam's mystical Sufi branch.

The Ali brothers bring their own innovations to the 700-year-old music, creating a stereophonic Sound reproduction that uses two or more channels. Stereophonic is the formal term; "stereo" is more widely used. Contrast with monophonic.  effect on stage by putting lead vocals on one side and echo on the other. Their singing is more delicate than the powerful Khan's, but with more complex rhythmic backing.
