BROOKS LAUNCHES RPM REMOTE PRINT MANAGER 3.0 FOR WINDOWS NT.

Brooks Internet Software, Inc, Idaho Falls, Idaho, has launched RPM Remote Print Manager (RPM/NT) 3.0 for Windows NT, the latest product from their TCP/IP network printing product line.

RPM/NT is the only complete solution supporting LPD and stream protocols that enables users to receive and customize print jobs from any AS/400, mainframe, UNIX or Windows-based system to any Windows printer - locally or remotely. The product is available for servers and workstations and has undergone extensive Y2K testing within the Windows NT environment.

RPM/NT configures as a NT service that automatically starts at system boot and remains active until the system shutdown, independent of user activity.

While many print servers only allow a straight pass-through of data from the host system to a printer, RPM allow provides extensive formatting capabilities in text printing, and the ability to work with third party software via filters.

Key Features

Less Demand on Your System - A separate user interface lowers resource demand and allows system administrators to restrict access.

Easier Security Administration - Personalized system and/or user accounts make security administration easier due to centralized access to spooled files and registry.

Custom Configuration of Print Queues - All data can be extensively customized before printing. The program's text processing offers formatting control. RPM can also by-pass the Windows print driver entirely and send data directly to a printer in raw format. RPM displays the number of pages for each print job so the user may track the job size.

Custom Configuration of Filter Queues/COM Filter Support - Allows the user to use third party software or develop applications that work in conjunction with RPM/NT. The filter queue also provides the user more control and options for naming files and handling illegal filename characters. Filter processing is now scheduled more efficiently for greater throughput.

"We built RPM Remote Print Manager for Windows NT as a solution to network printing needs in large distributed networks, taking full advantage of the Windows NT environment," said Dave Brooks, president of Brooks Internet Software, Inc. "We also continue to enhance the product by offering greater integration with other products and more extensive user control."

For international users, RPM/NT uses Unicode to support internationalization and run more efficiently under their Windows NT environment. The user interface and log text is formatted on the user's machine according to its language configuration.
