BROADWAY OFFERS UNIQUE TRADE-IN PROMOTION TO BENEFIT NEEDY
LOS ANGELES, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Ever wondered what to do with those old jeans that just don't fit right anymore? What about the shorts or trousers that are outdated or just a little worn? Ever think about receiving money for them and, at the same time, help clothe those less fortunate.
The Broadway today announced a creative promotion that offers customers savings as well as the satisfaction of helping someone in need. Southern California's largest department store will offer a $7 discount on the purchase of a pair of Levi's Dockers to each customer who brings in a pair of used pants or shorts. The Broadway, in turn, will donate the items to the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, two of the largest and most important local community service organizations.
"This promotion is a unique variation on the traditional 'cause- related' marketing program in that it delivers a special value to our customers while providing help to those who need it the most," said Jo Lawley, marketing and sales promotion senior vice president for The Broadway. "Many cause-related marketing programs are offered at regular price to customers and only provide monetary assistance to a specific charity or cause. This one provides a savings to the customer and the recycling of clothing to the needy, a double incentive for the customer," she added.
"The need is clearly there for all to see," said Lt. Col. David Riley, division commander for Southern California Salvation Army. "We wish to compliment The Broadway for developing such an innovative method for helping us satisfy these demands. Our hope is that the promotion will be successful and that others will emulate it."
"This project is an example of a partnership with business that is a win-win for all concerned," stated Monsignor R. David Cousineau, executive director, Catholic Charities.
The Salvation Army and Catholic Charities are two of the oldest and most respected agencies serving thousands of disadvantaged and homeless people in Southern California through a variety of programs offering food, clothing, shelter and other services.
This special trade-in promotion will be offered in all stores from April 26 through May 3. It is requested that all used garments be clean and ready for distribution to the agencies.
The Broadway operates 42 department stores in eight Southern California counties.
