BROADSTREET BATTLE THROUGH; JUNIOR RUGBY ROUND-UP.

BROADSTREET reached the fourth round of the EDF Energy National Trophy after a hard-fought 11-10 win over Westoe at The Ivor Preece Centre.

The home side were made to work for their victory against North One opponents who led by ten points after the opening 30 minutes.

Westoe fly-half Sam Rasch opened the scoring with a penalty and added a conversion after Willy Maola raced 70 metres to score under the posts.

Broadstreet managed to reply before half-time through flanker Nigel Mukarati, who crashed over following a lineout, and a Dan Richards penalty.

The wet and windy conditions took their toll in a tight second half during which both teams struggled to gain territorial advantage. The result hinged on penalty attempts - Richards was successful but Rasch missed from 30 yards with the last kick of the game.

Malvern were kicked out of the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup by the boot of Luton fly-half Darren Howells, who scored 20 of his team's 25 points.

Howells kicked six penalties and converted Jason Habender's try as Luton beat a weakened Malvern side 25-15 in their third-round tie.

Greg Summers and Gareth Taylor scored a try each for Malvern while Cameron Pimelow added a penalty and a conversion.

Dudley Kingswinford saw off Camp Hill 38-0 to move into the next round.

DKs skipper Ben Connett opened the scoring in the first minute with a try.

The visitors scored six tries - Jak Davis, Dave Westwood and Stefan Thorp crossing in the first half for a 26-point lead. Stefan Shillingford and Jordan Brookes touched down for second-half tries while scrum-half Robbie Harlow added four conversions.

Walsall's tie with Sheffield Tigers will have to be re-scheduled after the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Redditch's game against Claverdon in the fifth round of EDF Energy Junior Vase was also hit by the wet weather. Both games are likely to be played during the Christmas period.
