BROADMOOR STAFF FORGET TO LOCK UP THE PATIENTS.

STAFF at high-security Broadmoor hospital Broadmoor Hospital is a high security psychiatric hospital at Crowthorne in Berkshire, England. It is the best known of the three high-security psychiatric hospitals in England, the other two being Ashworth and Rampton.  FORGOT to lock up some of their most dangerous patients.

The alarm was only raised when one patient wandered out of his room to tell night workers, it was revealed last night.

Nigel McCorkell, chairman of the West London Mental Health Trust, said staff had received written warnings that it was "unacceptable". He told Channel 4 News: "The patients in question were not locked up at night as they are required to be, and one of the patients pointed this out to a member of staff." Mr McCorkell added: "It happened on one or two occasions." In a separate incident in March this year, only half the unit's 12 staff turned up for their shift, according to a managerial email obtained by Channel 4.

But Mr McCorkell said: "They may have perfectly good reasons. We have access to other staff within the hospital or on call to fill gaps."

The revelations came as the West London Mental Health Trust was criticised by the Care Quality Commission over a series of shortcomings and incidents, including patient suicides.

Some of Broadmoor's most notorious patients have included Moors murderer Ian Brady, gangster Ronnie Kray kray (krī) [Rus.,=edge], administrative and territorial unit of Russia. There are seven krays, or territories, within Russia. They are: Altai Territory, Khabarovsk Territory, Krasnodar Territory, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Maritime Territory, Perm  and Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.

It has also housed Charles Bronson - one of the most violent prisoners in Britain - and Stockwell Strangler Kenneth Erskine.
