 BROADCAST INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACTS
 MIDVALE, Utah, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadcast International


Inc. (NASDAQ: BRIN) announced today that it has entered into a multiyear contract with Lucky Stores Southern Division to install Broadcast's Instore Satellite Network in all Lucky Stores in Southern California and surrounding areas.
 Broadcast International's President, Dwight Egan said, "This new contract of approximately 240 stores, in combination with the company's recently announced contracts with Raley's (63 stores) and PayLess Drug Stores (92 stores), when installed, will increase Broadcast's network of customer locations to more than 4,400. These latest additions result in a 10 percent increase in the size of Broadcast's Satellite Network." He further noted, that the new agreement enhances the company's dominant position on the West Coast and increases the company's instore audio advertising audience to more than 50 million shoppers weekly nationwide. Services to be provided include video conferencing, instore audio advertising and background music programming via satellite.
 The company also announced that it's CheckRite business unit has entered into contracts with Smith's Food and Drug Centers Inc. to provide check recovery services for the chain's 120 stores in the Western United States and with Northern Automotive, an auto parts retailer with more than 600 locations nationwide including Northern Auto, Kragen and Checker Auto Parts stores. Egan added that, "Management is pleased that CheckRite's new technology and recovery centers are attracting such prominent retailers as Smith's and Northern Automotive. We believe that our investment in upgrading systems and services will continue to yield positive marketing results."
 Broadcast International and its wholly owned subsidiaries provide satellite-delivered business communications and financial services to retailers and other customers nationwide. These services include background music, point-of-purchase advertising, high-speed data transmission, video and audio conferencing and satellite installation and maintenance services. In addition, it provides check authorization data and recovery services for retailers nationwide.
