BRL Holdings (OTC/BB:BRLN) dba Element 21 Golf Company announced today the completion of its production design for its first release scandium alloy golf shafts. This new space age scandium alloy introduction to the golf industry marks the first significant introduction of a new materials technology for the sport of golf since the introduction of titanium over 20 years ago. The computer modeling work continues on golf head designs. This mathematical modeling is used to maximize performance and ergonomics of shape, and at the same time cut down the R&D time and costs by creating "virtual" prototypes of shafts and heads that are subsequently duplicated from scandium alloys.

With 2 years of prototype design, manufacture and testing, Element 21 Golf Company has completed initial development of its exotic metal golf club shafts with weights of as low as 69 grams, believed to be the first of their kind and the lightest "metal" golf shaft ever produced. The metal alloy shafts, designed initially for irons, are made from scandium, the 21st element of the periodic table. Scandium has been used in supersonic fighter jets and ballistic missiles and is expected to offer golfers the optimum features of both steel and graphite in a single shaft.

Player testing has confirmed that the scandium "iron" shaft has the "soft" feel of graphite reducing pain in the elbows and back and enhancing the player's ability to get the ball elevated, while maintaining the "control" and "feel" of a steel shaft. During the prototype development phase, player testing consistently demonstrated an increase in ball travel of up to 15% over comparable steel and graphite shafts. With flex ranges from senior to x-stiff, Element 21 Golf expects to be able to offer the right shaft for every caliber of golfer. The Scandium shafts can be matched to players with swing speeds from 60 mph to 140 mph.

Production of the first commercial shafts is scheduled for early in the second calendar quarter of 2003. New shaft manufacturing equipment has already been tested for quality assurance and scaled up for production. With 22 separate manufacturing steps required to make a Scandium golf shaft, "aerospace tolerances" or better are achieved, ensuring superior and consistent product quality and should result in higher customer satisfaction.

The high strength and light-weight of the Scandium alloy material will allow Element 21 Golf to design a product that offers the largest sweet spot possible in a golf club head. With the ability to perimeter weight the face of the club and to move weight to the base of the club head, the Company expects to offer drivers and fairway woods that offer exceptional performance while being built to the limits of the current USGA rules for coefficient of restitution (COR) for maximum driving distance.
