BRITISH AIRWAYS LAUNCHES U.S. FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM

 BRITISH AIRWAYS LAUNCHES U.S. FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM
 NEW YORK, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- British Airways (NYSE: BAB)

announced today it is launching its own frequent flyer plan for its USA customers, offering mileage credit on the largest international air network in the world.
 The program, called the Executive Club Frequent Traveller Programme USA, links the service benefits of the existing Executive Club with the mileage benefits of a frequent flyer package.
 British Airways, which is more than 30 percent owned by shareholders in the USA, is launching the plan today with a series of mileage incentives to cater to its growing database of clients.
 Among the novel offers of the new frequent flyer scheme will be:
 -- An award of 10,000 free bonus miles after the first paid British Airways round-trip transatlantic flight has been completed by the end of 1992;
 -- No blackout dates will be imposed on awards taken on British Airways transatlantic flights; and
 -- The introduction of "household" accounts which will permit up to four people, who reside at the same address, to share mileage credits.
 British Airways also announced that it had agreed to a completely new, more enhanced arrangement, with American Airlines, whereby British Airways' Executive Club Frequent Traveller Programme USA members can redeem miles for flights on American Airlines anywhere in The Americas after April 1, 1992.
 The airline said it was terminating its involvement in American Airlines' AAdvantage program, giving a grace period for members until March 31, 1992, during which time they can still earn AAdvantage miles on British Airways. The association with United Airline's Mileage Plus will terminate May 31, 1992.
 British Airways, of course, will continue its program with USAir, Alaska Airlines and other travel partners.
 Existing Executive Club cardholders will become charter members of the unique plan and will receive mileage credit for all flights taken from Feb. 18, 1992, in addition to American Airlines AAdvantage through March 31, 1992.
 New holders of Executive Club cards will be eligible for the same mileage awards from the time of joining.
 "We have decided to take this step to reward the 41 percent of the USA-UK market which flies with us annually and have built us into a billion dollar business in the USA alone," said John Story, executive vice president, USA.
 "As the world's largest international airline, we are taking the opportunity to incentivize our extensive global network for the benefit of our biggest single customer base outside of the UK," he added.
 "Our Executive Club Frequent Traveller Programme provides a combination of mileage and service benefits which is unique from any other competitive frequent flyer scheme in the USA and once again sets British Airways miles ahead in value-added travel opportunities."
 Further information, registration and application forms for Executive Club Frequent Traveller Programme USA are available from any British Airways city ticket office, sales or airport offices, from any travel agent, or by calling British Airways at a special toll free number, 1-800-955-2748.
