BRITISH AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC AND CAPACITY STATISTICS
 - OCTOBER 1992 (PRELIMINARY)
NEW YORK, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- British Airways (NYSE: BAB) scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in October increased by 8.9 percent compared with the previous year, with scheduled available seat miles (ASMs) up by 10.3 percent. The 71.8 percent scheduled passenger load factor for the month was down by 0.9 points compared with the previous year.
Intercontinental capacity (ASMs) increased by 11.0 percent in October, with U.K./Europe up by 7.5 percent compared with the previous year. Traffic growth (RPMs) failed to match capacity increases on both intercontinental and shorthaul services, producing reductions in passenger load factor of 0.8 points and 1.6 points, respectively, compared with the previous year.
As was the case in September, premium traffic in October remained below levels of a year ago, with traffic growth being restricted to the main cabin of
the aircraft. This contrasts with the months of July and

August, when premium traffic was up compared with the previous year. Whilst Sterling was considerably weaker in October following September's currency crisis, British Airways' October traffic revenue continued to reflect pre-ERM (Exchange Rate Mechanism) withdrawal exchange rates on tickets sold earlier in the summer.
Cargo traffic (CTMs) carried on British Airways scheduled services in October increased by 8.7 percent compared with the previous year, with total scheduled revenue ton miles up by 8.9 percent.
For the financial year to-date, British Airways scheduled traffic increased by 13.9 percent compared with the previous year on a capacity increase of 11.6
percent. The 74.2 percent scheduled passenger load factor was up by 1.5 points compared with the same period last year.
 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH
British Airways announced conditional agreement to acquire all the assets of Dan Air, owned by Davies & Newman Holdings Plc. The agreement followed the decision by the board of Davies & Newman that it was to close down Dan-Air's charter business and some of its scheduled routes. British Airways will pay a nominal /1 for Davies & Newman's remaining assets, but will assume its
remaining liabilities, including the cost of scaling down its operations. The agreement represents the first stage in British Airways' strategy to create a new, low cost airline dedicated to the continuation and further development of a major Gatwick shorthaul network.
British Airways announced that effective next spring, British Airways Regional will operate trans-Atlantic services linking both Birmingham and Glasgow with New York, and Manchester with Los Angeles.
British Airways rebranded its cargo business "British Airways World Cargo," and earned BS5750/ISO9000 accreditation by the International Standards Organization in Geneva.
