BRITE VOICE SYSTEMS REPORTS FIRST QUARTER RESULTS

WICHITA, Kan., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Brite Voice Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: BVSI) reported net income of $72,000, or $.02 per share, for the first quarter of 1993, compared to income of $35,000, or $.01 per share, for the same quarter in 1992. Revenues for the quarter ended March 31 were $5,576,000, compared to $4,852,000 during the same period last year. Income from operations was $34,000, compared to an operating loss of $90,000 in the prior year.
Stan Brannan, president and chief executive officer, stated, "We are encouraged by this quarter's results, which show our first quarterly profit since the same quarter last year. Record quarterly revenues for managed services were reported for the third consecutive quarter, and total revenues were the highest in the history of the company. We continue to invest in our managed services strategy, and we were able to increase our service revenues to approximately 28 percent of total revenue in the first quarter. Through internal growth and targeted acquisitions, we will continue to build services revenues."
Brite announced several new products in the first quarter. The VOICETONE(TM) Dialer allows phone companies to offer voice dialing services without making any modifications to the caller's telephone. Callers can make calls virtually hands-free by speaking a word or number into their telephones. MetroCel Cellular began offering the product under the name "VoiceTouch" in the Dallas/Fort Worth market in March 1993. Brannan commented, "We are very pleased that customer acceptance and usage in Dallas are ahead of expectations. We intend to market this new technology to cellular telephone operators in the United States, Canada and countries in Western Europe."
Brite also announced two new products for the media industry which focus on database marketing and electronic classifieds. Both products will be available during the second quarter of 1993.
On March 8, 1993, Brite announced plans to merge with Perception Technology Corp. and on April 28, a definitive agreement was signed to merge the two companies. Pursuant to the terms of the agreement, stockholders of Perception will receive one share of Brite Common Stock for each share of their Perception Common Stock. Consummation of the merger is subject to stockholder approval and is expected to occur in late June or early July.
