Grandson convicted in woman's murder

LANCASTER -- A Lake Los Angeles man was convicted Thursday of murdering his 78-year-old grandmother, with whom he lived.

An Antelope Valley Superior Court jury found 26-year-old Leonel Moncada guilty of first-degree murder in the May 2004 slaying of Elvira Diaz. Detectives at the time said she appeared to have been beaten, and Moncada reported the killing. He testified he was not at home when the murder occurred. Moncada pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity not guilty by reason of insanity n. plea in court of a person charged with a crime who admits the criminal act, but whose attorney claims he/she was so mentally disturbed at the time of the crime that he/she lacked the capacity to have intended to commit a crime. .

The sanity phase of the trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Six Flags doesn't sell Magic Mountain parks

VALENCIA -- Six Flags is selling seven of its theme parks, but not Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, company officials said Thursday.

The Valencia theme parks had been among several properties up for sale, as their New York-based owner tried to reduce $2.1billion in debt.

But company officials decided to keep Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, noting that business is up.
