Trail Blazers will work in Oak Park

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  -- On Saturday, the Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Trail Blazers will be blazing trails in the Oak Park area.

The group, which includes more than 100 volunteer members who hike and work on trails in the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, gathers for work parties on the third Saturday of each month.

Most of its projects are in Simi Valley, but this month volunteers are holding their work party on the Oak Park trail, which leads to China Flat above Lindero Canyon on the south side of the Simi Hills The Simi Hills are a low rocky mountain range in Southern California. Geography
Simi Hills is located on the western edge of the San Fernando Valley, United States. They run east-west and they extend 26 miles east-west, and 7 miles north-south.

To reach the trail volunteers, take the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. It is the principal east-west route through Ventura County and in the southern San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.  to Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, then go north to King James Court, parking on Lindero Canyon just east of King James.

The work party is from 8 a.m. to noon, and tools will be provided for volunteers, who should each bring two to three quarts of water, hats, sunscreen sunscreen /sun·screen/ (-skren) a substance applied to the skin to protect it from the effects of the sun's rays.

Golf raises cash for food bank

SIMI VALLEY -- Nearly 200 golfers raised more than $3,000 on Christmas Day for the Care and Share food bank charity in Simi Valley, which provides food and other basic supplies for needy families in the area.

The effort was held by the Tierra Rejada Golf Club, where golfers were allowed to play for free, but encouraged to make contributions to Care and Share.

Report on county to be released

CAMARILLO -- The Ventura County Civic Alliance is planning to release its Ventura County Regional Indicators Report in March, including data on 58 indicators that reflect the well-being of the county.

This is the group's second state-of-the-region report and will examine how local communities are balancing concerns about the environment, the economy and social services social services

O'Riley to play at three concerts

THOUSAND OAKS -- Pianist Christopher O'Riley will appear with the New West Symphony in the fourth Masterpiece Series concert of the 2006-07 season at three locations in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
