 board schedules forum to discuss public needs

The Lane Community College Board of Education will hold a community forum Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 2220, on the Lane Community College main campus, 400 E. 30th Ave.

Board members Pat Albright and Susie Johnston, President Mary Spilde and members of her executive staff will attend.

The board wants to ensure that it has a clear understanding of the district's education and training needs as the college plans for the future.

AARP AARP, a nonprofit, nonpartisan national organization dedicated to "enriching the experience of aging"; membership is open to people age 50 or older. Founded in 1958 by Ethel Percy Andrus as American Association of Retired Persons, AARP now has over 30 million  offering driver safety courses for older motorists

The AARP Driver Safety Program will offer driving classes at several locations throughout the area during June.

The driver safety course is designed for motorists 50 and older. It is intended to help older drivers sharpen their skills.

Auto insurance companies in Oregon provide a multiyear discount to AARP graduates.

The eight-hour course is taught in two four-hour sessions spanning two days, and costs $10. AARP members and nonmembers alike may take the course.

County seeks applicants for health committee

The Lane County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants for the health advisory committee.

The committee makes recommendations and advises on matters of public health, planning, policy development, control measures, funding, public education and advocacy.

There are three vacancies: two at-large positions and one for a dentist. The terms are four years. The application deadline is June 27.
