BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard Saturday Market stage will come back to life You know the seasons are changing when the clocks spring forward and it still hasn't warmed up in Eugene. Another reliable sign of spring is the flowering sounds floating from the Saturday Market stage downtown. The market kicks off this week with fiddler Chip Cohen at 10 a.m., followed by Rich Glauber's "music in action" at 11 a.m., the Samba Ja percussion ensemble at noon, Caroline Cruso on her hammered dulcimer at 1 p.m., Accordions Anonymous at 2 p.m. and Hokoyo teen marimba band at 3:30 p.m. A news release says more than 200 sets of music happen on the downtown stage each season, with many dozens more if you count the Holiday Market stage at the Lane Events Center. Last year, the release says, the market set a record for the most people on stage at a time: about 50 during the Uketoberfest. Kim Still has been booking the stage for 16 years. Still says it never rains on a marimba band, so there is always one booked on opening day. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Saturday through mid-November. Bus driver to perform Sunday at Cozmic Pizza If you've ever tried unsuccessfully to get your bus driver to sing you a song, Sunday is your chance for redemption. Although it won't come in the form of a singalong of "The Wheels on the Bus," longtime Lane Transit District driver Carl Faddis is doing an afternoon show at Cozmic Pizza. The "Bus Man" performs Americana, folk, blues, pop and inspirational music with what a news release calls "one of the most incredible voices you will ever have the pleasure of hearing." The show starts at 4 p.m. at 199 W. Eighth Ave. The show is free with a donation. Later, rapper Astronautalis will perform at 9 p.m. for a $5 cover. - The Register-Guard |
