Shooters sought in gang killing

VAN NUYS -- Police sought the public's help Thursday in identifying three people who shot a 23-year-old gang member to death, authorities said.

The suspects, described only as Latinos 15 to 20 years old, fatally shot Albert Chim about 6:55 p.m. Wednesday in the 7200 block of Lennox Avenue, officials said.

Freeway crashes close down lanes

GLENDALE -- Two collisions shut down westbound 134 Freeway lanes in Glendale early Thursday and left at least one person seriously injured, according to according to

Mom sentenced for taking kids

A woman who took her two young children from the Glendale home of their father and paternal grandmother on Oct. 1, 2005, was sentenced Thursday to 16 months in state prison.

Rosanna Josefina Remey, 37, of Glendale, pleaded guilty to one count of child-custody deprivation, according to Deputy District Attorney Michael Fishman.

It's unclear how much more time, if any, she will serve behind bars, because she has been in custody for "a long time," Fishman said.

Remey took son, River, then age 6, and daughter, Angie, then 5, from the home at 724 N. Isabel St., where they had been placed with their father and paternal grandfather a few days earlier by the Department of Children and Family Services.

Transit Wi-Fi study sought

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday asked Metro officials to determine whether free or low-cost wireless Internet service can be made available on public transit lines.

The mayor asked the transit agency to assess the feasibility of providing Wi-Fi service on the Metro Red, Green, Blue and Orange lines.

The report is due by April.

Before the Orange Line opened in 2005, officials proposed offering Wi- Fi, but determined it was too expensive.

Hospital releases medical records

The medical records of a homeless paraplegic paraplegic /para·ple·gic/ (-ple´jik)

 after the hospital received what it deemed a proper release form from the City Attorney's Office.

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo asked the hospital on Wednesday to release the records as part of an investigation into the incident.

Hospital officials said they held on to the records until Delgadillo's office proved that the homeless man consented to the release of information.
