Junior League of Eugene to host holiday event

SPRINGFIELD - The Junior League of Eugene will host a holiday celebration for more than 550 Lane County foster children and parents today.

The children will enjoy a guest appearance from Santa, food and gift baskets A gift basket, or fruit basket is typically a gift that is delivered to the recipient at their home or workplace. There are different varieties of gift baskets, some which have fruit only, some with dry/canned goods only (such as tea, crackers and jam) although the standard . The party will be from 9 a.m. to noon, and will be at the Regional Sports Center, 200 S. 32nd St.

Eugene Code Pink event to mark Human Rights Day

Eugene Code Pink will honor As a verb, to accept a bill of exchange, or to pay a note, check, or accepted bill, at maturity. To pay or to accept and pay, or, where a credit so engages, to purchase or discount a draft complying with the terms of the draft.  Human Rights Day on Sunday with speakers and music.

The event includes a panel of speakers discussing current human rights concerns, followed by entertainment by members of Abakadubi.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave. Admission is free, but a sliding-scale donation of $5 to $20 will be requested at the door to raise money for Code Pink. For more information, call 343-7970.

League of Women Voters League of Women Voters, voluntary public service organization of U.S. citizens. Organized in 1920 in Chicago as an outgrowth of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, it had as its original nucleus the leaders of the latter organization.  to hold planning meetings

The League of Women Voters of Lane County will be holding a number of December meetings to discuss program planning for 2007.

The League will review the current positions of the local and state League and recommend whether to retain, drop, update or restudy them. The opportunity to indicate subjects that members feel are worthy of emphasis through a special activity will also be discussed, as well as topics for new studies.

Unit meetings are the time League members and guests gather at homes and public places to discuss the topic of the month.

New or prospective members are welcome to join.

High school dance teams from around the state will be competing today. "Dancing with the Colleens" is a category dance competition with round one at noon and round two at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for the whole day ($6 for students) and $6 for a single session ($3 for students). Children under 5 are free.
