City assisting with passports

SIMI VALLEY -- Helping meet the demand under new federal border crossing requirements, the city of Simi Valley is accepting applications for passports at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.

The applications are accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. by appointment only. Information and instructions can be obtained at www.travel.state.gov.

Forms can be downloaded from that site and are also available at the passport counter in City Hall. City officials administer oaths in connection with the applications, but applicants must supply their own photographs.

Flu shots free for some groups

SIMI VALLEY -- Simi Valley Hospital and the Ventura County Public Health Department will offer free flu shots to certain people Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aspen Outpatient Center, 2750 N. Sycamore Drive.

The vaccine will be provided on a first-come basis, but will be given only to children 6 months to 5 years old, adults 50 and over, children 6 months or older with chronic or high- risk medical conditions, women who will be pregnant during the influenza season, health-care workers and caregivers of children.

Swanson named Habitat director

OXNARD -- Stacy Swanson of Thousand Oaks has been named the new executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County.

Swanson recently served as manager for Lutheran Community Services for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in the Pacific Southwest.

She holds a bachelor's degree from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks and a master's from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.

Park Service offers shuttle

SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS -- The National Park Service is offering a free bus shuttle service Friday, Saturday and Sunday in honor of America's veterans.

The free Veterans Day weekend service connects more than a dozen sites in the Santa Monica Mountains and Malibu-area beaches.

The shuttle runs year-round on Saturdays and Sundays and some holidays, and fares are normally $1 per person. Schedules and other details are available at www.parklinkshuttle.com or by calling (888) 734-2323.

Senior boutique to kick off season

THOUSAND OAKS -- Senior Concerns' Bargain Boutique and Thrift Shop will host a festive evening with appetizers and entertainment Dec. 2 to preview merchandise for its annual storewide holiday sales kickoff in the Conejo Valley.

Both events are at the thrift store at the rear of the Human Services Building, 80 E. Hillcrest Drive, just east of Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.

The preview evening is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., and $10 tickets can be purchased at the thrift shop or from Terry Smith at Senior Concerns, (805) 497-0189.

Softball league accepting girls

SIMI VALLEY -- Registration is scheduled for Thursday and Saturday for the Simi Valley Girls Softball league for girls 5-18.

The registration hours and locations are Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. at the Lost Canyons Golf Club, 3301 Lost Canyons Drive, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Berylwood Elementary School, 2300 Heywood St.
