Garden Society plans

slide show for Nov. 7

The Emerald Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society is hosting a slide show Nov. 7. An incorrect date was listed in Sunday's Register-Guard.

Tanya Harvey, a local artist, graphic designer, photographer and amateur botanist, will give a free slide show lecture of her summer trip to the Wasatch Mountains outside Salt Lake City. She will show the scenery and many of the plants of the area.

The 7 p.m. event is at the Eugene Garden Club, 1645 High St. Door prizes and refreshments follow. For information, call 484-1284.

Residents invited to have

their say about City Hall

Eugene residents may share their opinions about potential sites for a new City Hall from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St.

The Eugene City Council is considering whether to order designs for a new City Hall on its present site at East Eighth Avenue and Pearl Street or on land that includes Lane County's "butterfly" parking lot west of the Lane County Courthouse and three adjacent private properties.

The council wants to replace the 42-year-old City Hall because city officials consider the building too small, vulnerable to earthquakes and too costly to renovate.

Councilors met with architects on Oct. 18 to discuss various building concepts for each site. Now, councilors want to know if residents prefer a full block or half-block concept and one of the sites for a new City Hall.

Child care and refreshments will be provided, with registration required for the child care program.

To register, visit www.eugenecityhall.com or call 682-5222.

The city is offering tours of City Hall through Monday. Use the above contact information to arrange a tour.

Commissioner sets

monthly meet-and-greet

Bill Fleenor, west Lane County commissioner-elect, will hold his monthly "coffee and conversation" meeting from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Dani's Coffee & Espresso, 45 R Division Ave., Eugene.

Call 268-0222.

Club seeking donations

for `Operation Shoebox'

A local Camp Fire club seeks donations for "Operation Shoebox," which would provide holiday gifts for homeless kids and disabled adults.

The KaTaCuYa club, composed of students from Springfield and South Eugene high schools, is seeking donations of hats, scarves, gloves and socks; new toiletry items; individually wrapped candies; school and art supplies; makeup and baby supplies. All must be new and small enough to pack in a shoebox. Shoeboxes, wrapping paper and cash donations are also needed.

The club aims to fill 200 shoeboxes this year. Donations must be received by Nov. 13 in order for club members to notify local agencies how many boxes to expect. For information, call 344-8184.
