BRIEFLY.Byline: The Register-Guard PotPie moves its improv on down to Lord Leebrick Ordinarily, it is not healthy to consume potpie, or any other food for that matter, after 11 p.m. But this weekend, local funny pair Russell Dyball and Angie Riley have come up with a way for it to be A-OK with two late-night shows with their comedy act, PotPie. For almost two years, Dyball and Riley have been bringing PotPie Improv Comedy Theater to various venues around town. But now, the stage is set for them to come up with an even more amusing show on the fly at Lord Leebrick Theater. "This is the type of environment we've been looking forward to playing in since we first started together," Dyball's news release says. "From the get-go, we've wanted to mix improv and more conventional theater trappings. To get to take that to a legitimate and great local theater, that's very special for us." Surely, some part of their comedic souls will miss ComedySportz, when the bumping bass from Jaxx next door rattled a much smaller stage. This time, any rattling of the stage will be left to the performers as they try to make you laugh with sometimes dirty, usually amusing, stage tactics. Lord Leebrick is at 540 Charnelton St. Admission is $5 at the door. KRVM wants to sign up 1,000 people by Monday During radio-thons, scientists should study the brains of public radio listeners to find out whether pledging early relieves the part of the brain that controls guilt. Announcers tend to believe you will feel better if you pledge earlier, and they always have the problem of procrastinators clogging up phone lines at the sprint to the finish. You still have a chance to get in on the early side of things by pledging now to support KRVM-FM, which began its fundraising push Sept. 22. The station is seeking 1,000 new and renewing members by Oct. 2, according to a news release. To sign up, call 687-5786 or go to www.krvm.org. - The Register-Guard |
