the topic for City Club

`Land Use Planning: What Can Be Done Differently?' will be the topic on Friday at the City Club of Eugene.

The speakers will be Kevin Mathews of Friends of Eugene, Terry Connolly of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, Dan Hill of the Lane County Homebuilders Association and Rob Handy of the Eugene Neighborhood Leaders Council.

The meeting, which will begin at 11:50 a.m. at the Downtown Athletic Club, is open to the public. Admission is $3.

A free follow-up discussion will be at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday at the Fifth Street Public Market.

Applicants sought

for transit vacancy

Applications are being accepted through May 12 for a vacancy on the Lane Transit District Board.

The board's Position 6 was vacated by 12-year member Dave Kleger. The position covers the west Eugene/Highway 99, River Road and Junction City areas.

Applicants should submit a form to the Governor's Office of Executive Appointments by May 12. The forms can be found online at governor.oregon.gov/Gov/boards.shtml or at www.ltd.org.

In other board news, members Gerry Gaydos and Susan Ban have been reappointed to new four-year terms after being nominated by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate on April 6.
