The Bethel School The Bethel School is a historic school in Monticello, Florida. It is located on County Road 149. On October 12, 2001, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.  Board made it official Thursday, unanimously approving a two-year contract with the district's next superintendent.

Man charged

in shooting incident

VENETA - Deputies seized a handgun and a rifle Thursday from the home of a man charged with shooting out a neighbor's window during a dispute.

Michael Glen Lackey, 47, of Veneta was being held in the Lane County Jail on charges including unlawful use of a weapon, being a felon An individual who commits a crime of a serious nature, such as Burglary or murder. A person who commits a felony.

 in possession of a weapon, menacing and recklessly endangering another.

Lane County deputies served a search warrant Thursday at his apartment at 25115 E. Broadway and found a Jennings 9-mm semiautomatic handgun and a Ruger. 22-caliber rifle in Lackey's bedroom.

A neighbor called for help at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday and said Lackey had fired a shot through his front window at the Veneta Villa Apartments. Deputies patrolling the Veneta area arrived to find Lackey holed up in his apartment. He ignored several attempts to contact him by telephone, but finally answered at 8:48 p.m. and agreed to surrender. He was taken into custody at 9:03 p.m.
