The Veterans Administration Roseburg Healthcare System is offering free flu vaccinations for veterans at the Eugene VA Medical Center, 100 River Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Ambulatory Care ambulatory care

Town hall meetings on public safety funding in Lane County will take place in the coming weeks.

Springfield Commissioner Bill Dwyer and East Lane Commissioner Faye Stewart will hold a Springfield Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St. in Springfield.

Dorris Ranch presents

`Sacagawea' event

SPRINGFIELD - Dorris Ranch will present "Sacagawea Relives the Journey" as part of its Trail Talk series at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Eugene resident Nancy Gowins depicts the teenage Shoshone interpreter and guide who helped Lewis and Clark in their historic expedition across the West 200 years ago.

The half-hour presentation, to be held in the barn at Dorris Ranch, will include time for questions from the audience. It's tailored for adults and older children.

Admission is free but a $2 donation is requested.

Dorris Ranch, part of the Willamalane Park & Recreation District, is located at 205 Dorris St., off South Second Street.

Express shuttles available for Duck game Overview

The UO Duck Express event shuttles will provide transportation to Autzen Stadium on Saturday for the football game against Cal. The cost is $3 round trip and is collected during pregame boarding.

Shuttle service to Autzen Stadium begins at 8:30 a.m. for Saturday's game. Buses run every five to 15 minutes from 11 Park & Ride locations.

Womenspace awarded

$130,000 federal grant

Children who enter the Womenspace shelter for domestic violence survivors will get faster help under a three-year, $130,000 federal grant announced this week.

The Open Arms project will bring social workers into the Womenspace shelter to begin working immediately with children in crisis.

Currently, children must be taken to another community agency to get most emergency services emergency services Emergency care '…services …necessary to prevent death or serious impairment of health and, because of the danger to life or health, require the use of the most accessible hospital available and equipped to furnish those services'  when their families are wrecked by domestic violence, Womenspace Executive Director Cheryl O'Neill said.

The strength of the Womenspace grant application arose from the community's long-standing and growing partnerships in family violence recovery and prevention, O'Neill said.

"It shows what a great community we've got. We work so well together. We have a great foundation to build on," she said.

Womenspace is a nonprofit shelter, education and support agency for domestic violence survivors founded in Eugene in 1975.
