WOODLAND HILLS - The Les Brown Band of Renown will perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today as the Valley Cultural Center's free summer concert series continues at Warner Center Park, Califa Street and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

Parking is $5 in the adjacent garage on Califa Street, with additional parking in structures on Owensmouth Avenue.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner or buy food from vendors on site.

The concerts will be held Sundays through the Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.  weekend. Next Sunday's headliner will be the Preservation Hall Jazz Band Preservation Hall Jazz Band is the name for groups of Traditional jazz musicians from New Orleans on tours organized by Preservation Hall.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band usually performs nightly at Preservation Hall and tours around the world over 150 days a year.

Broken pipe cuts off water in area

WOODLAND HILLS - About 100 Woodland Hills residents were without water for nearly 12 hours Saturday after a pipe burst, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is the largest municipal utility in the United States, serving 3.9 million residents in 2006. It was founded in 1902 to deliver water and electricity supplies to residents and businesses in Los Angeles.  officials said.

It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  reported the break at Topanga Canyon and Victory boulevards about 2:20 a.m. Residents were advised to use bottled water until the pipe was repaired about 2 p.m. Saturday.

The cause of the break is under investigation. Los Angeles has more than 140 miles of pre-1940 steel water lines that will be upgraded in the coming years.

2 allegedly tried gun shop break-in

LANCASTER- Sheriff's deputies arrested two Palmdale men who reportedly tried to break into a Lancaster gun shop.

Eric Johnson, 19, and Abe Duhon, 20, were using an acetylene acetylene (əsĕt`əlēn') or ethyne (ĕth`īn), HC≡CH, a colorless gas. It melts at −80.8°C; and boils at −84.0°C;.  cutting torch on the back door of The Gun Store at 44633 Sierra Highway when someone called authorities about 12:20 a.m. Friday, said sheriff's Sgt. Cory Kennedy of the Lancaster station.

The two were later arrested in a traffic stop and booked on suspicion of attempted burglary, he said.

NEWPORT BEACH- Thousands of moon jellyfish are gathering in Newport Beach harbor for their annual breeding pilgrimage, authorities said Saturday.

Newport Beach police Sgt. Mark Everton said that so far there have been no report of injuries to swimmers by the jellyfish, which can inflict painful stings.

Suspect involved in 2 fatal crashes

PALMDALE - A man suspected of leaving the scene of a fatal crash today was arrested after a high-speed chase that ended in another crash that killed another person and injured three others, a sheriff's deputy said.

About 4:20 p.m., deputies spotted a man suspected of leaving the scene of a fatal crash that had just occurred at 47th Street East and Route 8 in Palmdale in which a man died, said Deputy Tanya Plunkett of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department This article is about the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, not to be confused with the smaller Los Angeles County Police

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) is a local law enforcement agency that serves Los Angeles County, California.

Deputies pursued the suspect to 50th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, where the suspect's vehicle struck another, leaving another person dead and three with moderate to serious injuries, she said.

The names of the victims and the suspect were not immediately available.
