CITY - A 31-year-old woman was shot to death at her residence on Walpole Avenue, Kern Kern, river, 155 mi (249 km) long, rising in the S Sierra Nevada Mts., E Calif., and flowing south, then southwest to a reservoir in the extreme southern part of the San Joaquin valley. The river has Isabella Dam as its chief facility. County coroner coroner (kôr`ənər), judicial officer responsible for investigating deaths occurring through violence or under suspicious circumstances. The office has been traced to the late 12th cent. officials said. Suspected in the slaying is the woman's roommate, who fled after the 6 p.m. Sunday shooting, coroner's officials said.
