Police seek male suspect

after assaults in UO dorm

Eugene police are looking for a man suspected of assaulting two students in a University of Oregon dormitory Sunday. Police said the man returned with a gun later that day and threatened one of the men.

The situation began at 6 a.m. Sunday when the man entered a residence hall at 1410 Moss St. and went to a room he believed was his own dorm room in a previous year. While there, the man allegedly assaulted the two students.

He left the building and returned at 9 a.m. carrying a black revolver, police said. Students living in nearby rooms heard the man threaten to hurt one of the students he had assaulted earlier. The student was gone at the time, and the man left.

Police identified Carlos Alberto Valencia-Torres, 23, as a suspect in the incident. Valencia-Torres is not currently a student, but attended the university's high school equivalency program in the fall of 2004. Police asked anyone who sees the man to call 911.
