Man arrested after

police car rammed

SPRINGFIELD - A 31-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly attempted to elude officers and rammed the stolen car he was driving into a police car, police said.

Shortly before 7 a.m. police attempted to stop Troy Dwayne Rhodes in the 6400 block of A Street after the owner of the car spotted Rhodes driving his vehicle and notified authorities, said Springfield Sgt. John Umenhofer.

Officers chased the driver until he rammed the car into a police cruiser driven by Officer Larry Turner in the 2700 block of Olympic Street. No one was seriously injured, police said.

Rhodes was arrested after a brief struggle. He was charged with robbery, eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, reckless driving and possession of methamphetamine, Umenhofer said.

He was held at Lane County Jail.
