wreck on Highway 99

A man was killed Wednesday when his sport utility vehicle left Highway 99, went airborne and rolled several times.

 Thomas, 28, of Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery).  died in the 1:15 p.m. wreck in front of Blachly-Lane Electric Cooperative just north of Eugene.

It was initially introduced as a competitor for the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout.
 went off the west side of the road and hit the side of the entrance to the power company before rolling and coming to rest on its roof. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he was wearing safety restraints and did not know why his vehicle left the road. One lane of Highway 99 was closed after the accident. The Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate.
